participate in Calgary''s annual Commuter Challenge: June 1-8, 2008
Location: all around Calgary
When: Saturday, February 02, 2008 to Tuesday, June 03, 2008 at see below
participate in Calgary's annual Commuter Challenge: June 1-8, 2008
The basic premise of the Commuter Challenge is to encourage ‘healthier’ commuting practices, reducing the reliance on single-occupancy (i.e., one person in one car) vehicles for trips to and from the workplace.
During the event, participating individuals and corporations record their modes of transportation for the week. Each person who walked, ran, skated, cycled, rode transit or carpooled is counted as a "healthier" commuter. A person who participated in "telecommuting" (working from home via telecommunication channels) is also considered a healthier commuter.
At the end of the week, the corporation with the highest average percentage of healthier commuters over the course of Environment Week is declared to be the most commuting-conscious. In turn, individuals who have accomplished impressive feats of sustainable transportation are also rewarded. Everyone who participates is also eligible for a number of prizes.
For more details, go to www.calgarycommute.ca.

Canada's C-51: Trojan Horse Legislation Sponsored by Big Pharma
Bill C-51 Unlawfully Suppresses Canadian Citizens' Rights and Freedoms
[Editor's Note: Bills such as C-51 are but thinly disguised variations on Nazi Germany's 1933 Enabling Act which removed Parliamentary decision making and oversight from national legislation. Stated in its simplest terms, these bills are intended to replace democratic representative government with un-elected, closed-door decision making which will bind all citizens. We are witnessing the transformation of North American democratic government into oligarchic tyranny. Will Canadian citizens wake up in time?.. ..Ken Adachi]

Canada's C-51: Trojan Horse Legislation Sponsored by Big Pharma (April 27, 2008)
http://www.democracydefined.org
Dear Members,
See below info relating to Canadian Bill C-51. It is something to make every democratic person's blood run cold. The owners of the pharmaceutical giants are behind this -- it is the shape of things to come throughout the West and elsewhere.
Attend our rally at the Calgary Federal Court on May 9th 2008. Call 1-888-878-3467 for Details
Yours sincerely,
Kenn.
Canadian Rights and Freedoms are at Risk, An Important Notice Regarding Bill C-51
On April 8th, 2008, the Canadian Minister of Health introduced Bill C-51 into the House of Commons. This Bill proposes significant changes to the current Food and Drugs Act that will have wide-ranging negative implications for Canadians.
Bill C-51 will:
· Remove democratic oversight, bypassing elected officials to vote in laws and allow bureaucrats to adopt laws from other countries without our consent.
· Remove 70% of Natural Health Products from Canadians and many others will be available by prescription only.
· Restrict research and development of safe natural alternatives in favor of high risk drugs.
· Punish Canadians with little or no opportunity for protection or recourse for simply speaking about or giving a natural product without the approval of government. More than 70% of people in Canada use a Natural Health Product. The new law goes so far as to warrant action against a person who would give another person an unapproved amount of garlic on the recommendation that it would improve that persons health.
Proposed New Enforcement Powers:
· Inspectors will enter private property without a warrant
· Inspectors will take your property at their discretion
· Inspectors will dispose of your property at will
· Inspectors will not reimburse you for your losses
· Inspectors will seize your bank accounts
· Inspectors will charge owners shipping and storage charges for seized property
· Inspectors will be empowered to store your property indefinitely
· Inspectors will levy fines of up to $5,000,000.00 and/or seek 2 years in jail per incident
With your assets and money under their control will you be able to defend yourself in Court?
Can you trust government with this new law and enforcement power?
Would our government really ever turn this law against us? Read the following account.
In 2003 Health Canada launched an attack on a group of mentally ill patients and the company who supported them naturally. They seized shipments of a safe natural therapy required by the patients and stormed the support center with 17 armed officers and agents. The company (Truehope) reported that they lost contact with more than 300 of their Canadian participants. The Canadian Mental Health Association told of suicides as a result of government action.
Health Canada then charged the not for profit company, burdening them with heavy legal costs. Truehope was found innocent by necessity and instructed by the judge to continue under legal and moral responsibility. Although the agents admitted knowing they were injuring people through their actions, they stated under oath they care only about policy and directive. And what happened to the more than 300 mentally ill Canadians that became unreachable? In the months and years following, reports of hospitalizations and suicides during the seizures have surfaced. No Health Canada agent has ever been charged.
Will this new law be used to abuse and punish special interest groups, minorities, religious groups or others?
Why do bureaucrats want to bypass the Parliament and approval to create new laws?
Why do bureaucrats want seizure warrants without judge approval ?
With fines being increased a 1000 times, and seizing authority without a warrant, is Bill C-51 meant to bankrupt and silence its target audience?
Here's what you can do to protect your rights:

An Evening of Music at St. Barnabas Parish Hall
Join us for an evening of roots music featuring the son of Stan Rogers, Nathan Rogers, with your hosts The Buccaneers on Saturday, May 10, 2008. The doors open at 7:30pm with the show starting at 8:00pm.
Tickets for this family friendly, folk club style concert are $20.00 for Adults, $17.00 for Seniors & Students and $15.00 for Children. The concert is also a fundraising event in support of the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank.
Bring the whole family down to the St. Barnabas Parish Hall at 1407 – 7 Ave NW for an evening of a cappella music for music lovers of all ages.
Some say he was born into it, some that he was born with it, while others claim he has earned it. With one foot planted firmly in folk music’s traditional roots and the other reaching into its dynamic future, Nathan Rogers isn’t entirely sure what ‘it’ is; singer, songwriter, guitarist, throat-chanter, percussionist, revivalist, or innovator. Whatever it may be, “Nathan has the ability to turn the folk world on its ears.”
“He’s the son of the late, great Stan Rogers and he sounds like his old man and his uncle, Garnet. He likes to sing story songs and rugged ballads, just as his dad did and his uncle does. But make no mistake; Nathan Rogers is his own man. At 25, the Winnipeg-based singer/songwriter has faced enough in his life to be able to approach both his music and his songwriting with tenacity that comes from within.” - John Kendle - Uptown Magazine (Winnipeg, MB)
Cash donations for the Bignote Concert Society and non-perishable food donations for the Inter-Faith Food Bank will be accepted during the concert.

This is a time when we remember all of the children who have gone missing and celebrate the return of many children who have been found and reunited with their parents. This year is especially highlighted as we are celebrating our 25th anniversary: Child Find Alberta was the first search agency in Canada and was founded here in Calgary in 1983.
What does the afternoon entail? Child Find Alberta’s Special Events Committee has worked very hard to ensure we have a terrific line up of live entertainment for you!! Live entertainment will include: Lachlan & Celina Sinclair bagpipes and drumming, Seido-Kan Karate School, Free-House Dance, One World Drum, a live band and more! There will also be face painting, prizes and treats!
In addition to live entertainment, parents are encouraged to take advantage of our free child fingerprinting service at our “All About Me” I.D. clinic on site. The information contained in our “All About Me” I.D. booklet greatly assists in search and recovery efforts in the event that a child goes missing.
We would like to thank our wonderful sponsors, supporters and partners. Without their generous support, this event and all the great entertainment, prizes and treats would not be possible.

Join Meet Market Adventures as we experience the Wii & Rockband  phenomenon that has everyone talking. Wii is designed to be more inviting and comfortable for non-gamers to use, unlike button-heavy controllers. It contains a speaker, which makes the experience all the more real. The Wii Remote can be swung like a racket in a tennis game or go through the motions of real bowling. Rock Band does a superb job of bringing out the wannabe rock star in all of us, and creates one of the best party-game experiences of all time. It takes the four key instruments one needs to make a band a rock band (guitar, bass, drums, vocals), and builds a highly playable and intensely addictive game around them. It is a ton of fun playing classic rock songs from Poison, Great White, Guns & Roses and many more.Along with this we will have munchies and drink specials. Its a guaranteed good time
