Canada has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis (MS) in the world, with an average of 11 Canadians diagnosed with MS every day. MS is a chronic, often disabling, disease of the central nervous system. Since that includes the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve, MS can affect vision, memory, balance, and mobility. The MS Society of Canada provides services and support to people living with MS and their families, and funds research to help find a cure for the disease. For those living with MS, achieving a small task in a body that feels like it won’t listen, is a true Act of Greatness. We need your help to celebrate these Acts of Greatness! Join us at an interactive installation at CrossIron Mall from May 24-26 & 30 to perform your own Act of Greatness by supporting our effort to raise $75 million and learn more about living with MS. Together, we will empower people affected by MS to live their best lives. The event is free to the public. The Collectors’ Gallery of Art presents Relevant Space, a solo exhibition by Canadian sculptor Blake Ward. The Spirits Collection illustrates Ward’s contemporary approach to the classical figure, revealing a liberating style of expressionism in which content supersedes form. Employing the classical techniques of figurative sculpture, these works challenge convention by presenting only a portion of the figure, providing an incomplete impression of the human form that compels the viewer to finish the image. The contemporary nature of the layered bronze surfaces hint at the multitude of identities behind which we exist.

In art song, composers and poets distill familiar human experience into musical morsels that explore nostalgia, love, and loss. Featuring Scott Rumble (tenor), Taryn Plater (soprano), and Evan Mounce (piano), The Carousel strings together some of the genre's most enduring works, cycling through gripping vignettes of sentiment and memory. From Strauss to Rachmaninoff, Schumann to Fauré, this carefully curated program interprets themes of longing, waiting, remembering, and reuniting, pairing the immediacy of spring hopes and passions with wonderfully self-indulgent moments of introspection.

Since its inception, the Walk for Arthritis has raised over $11 million. Let’s make our 10th anniversary a record breaking year. On a single day (either Saturday June 1 or Sunday June 2 depending on where you live), people can come out to share the experience of walking 1km or 5km, among family and friends in a festive environment. Hear meaningful stories from people who face this disease every day, and meet the researchers that are really making headway in finding solutions that our investment in research can deliver. Experience the joy of being with inspiring people who actually find walking to be a big challenge because of the pain and limitations of arthritis. But they can move - so can you! New this year our fundraising incentive program has 3 levels: Raise $100.00 or more and receive an event day t-shirt. Please note t-shirts are only available through the fundraising incentive program Raise $250.00 or more and receive a mini-tote bag (+ t-shirt) Raise $500.00 or more and receive a 10th anniversary premium baseball hat (+ t-shirt + tote bag) Don’t miss out on this year’s Walk for Arthritis!

“Rising Stars” on June 2 at 2:30 pm in the Jack Singer Concert Hall is the fifth and final concert for 2018 - 2019, and it is without doubt one of the most important events of our season. This concert provides four young Calgary musicians all under the age of 18 with a career boosting opportunity to play with the Civic Symphony before our Jack Singer Concert Hall audience. The young musicians who win this honour demonstrate exceptional musical ability combined with a level of poise unseen in most young people. Past winners of this prestigious honour include Jan Lisiecki, who has gone on to an international career as a concert pianist; and Arnold Choi currently principal cello with the Calgary Philharmonic. Maestro Rolf Bertsch conducts the Civic as we launch the concert performing Mikhail Glinka’s Overture to Ruslan and Lyudmilla as the Orchestra opens the concert. The balance of the Concert will feature works selected by the young musicians: Typhen Chan (Violin) - Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major; Sua Kwoun (Cello) - Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante in E Minor; Joan Herget (Cello) - Dvorak Cello Concerto in B Minor; and Jessica Yuma (Piano) - Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 in B Flat Minor. As always, there is a pre-concert chat or performance which begins at 1:45 pm in the lobby, and this version will feature a brief recital by the runners-up from the C3 competition. The Calgary Civic Symphony was founded in 1975 as Calgary’s volunteer orchestra. Over the years, the Civic has swelled to over 80 musicians. With an interesting diversity in professions, its members come together each week to rehearse complex orchestral works. Under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Rolf Bertsch, the Symphony shapes and polishes performances that are truly brilliant! For more information, please call (403) 670-5430 or visit www.calgarycivicsymphony.ca Price/Tickets Adults $30, Seniors/Students $24, Youth (ages 7 - 17) $19 and children under 6 are free.

This year, we are happy to offer two types of tickets for this event: one which provides transportation to and from Drumheller and one which does not. For tickets purchased with transporation: We will provide a coach transportation from a central downtown in Calgary (pick up spot: Fairmont Palliser - 133 9 Avenue S.W.) to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller leaving promptly at 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival in Drumheller at approximately 3:45 p.m., guests will be moved into small groups and taken on a VIP tour of the museum hosted by Tyrrell's gallery experience officers beginning at 4 p.m. For tickets purchased without transportation: We ask that guests arrive to the main lobby of the Royal Tyrrell Museum no later than 4 p.m. to take part in the museum tour. Following the museum and a bonus private fossil tour for ten lucky attendees (names drawn at random upon arrival), guests will be guided through a private staff area up to the museum's rooftop for canapes, welcome cocktails by Burwood Distillery and an interactive fossil exhibition before sitting down for dinner at 6 p.m. The 4-course dinner menu* inspired by interesting types of dinosaurs from different periods of the Mesozoic Era with a jaw-dropping, carnivorous Alberta Pork main course (bring that T-Rex appetite!) with all dishes being paired up with prehistoric-inspired cocktails by Madeleine MacDonald (SAIT, Lulu Bar) and Wyatt Sutherland (Two Penny) using Burwood Distillery spirits**. The dinosaur-inspired dishes have been conceived and will be created by Calgary chefs: Mharlon Atienza (Two Penny), Eraj Jayawickreme (Fairmont Palliser) and Garrett Martin (chef-at-large, formerly Bridgette Bar). Once the event wraps and the sun sets on the beautiful 360 degree Badlands backdrop, coach buses will take all Alberta ERA guests who opted for transport back to the Fairmont Palliser with an estimated arrival of 10:30 p.m. More information on this unique culinary event can be found on Eat North. Zac Brown Band bringing their new summer tour to Calgary. The Grammy Award winners will stop at Scotiabank Saddledome on July 12 during their Owl Tour. The Zac Brown Band will spend the summer of 2019 touring in support of their forthcoming new album. The Owl Tour takes inspiration the great horned owl, an animal that can still see perfectly at night. Its sight allows the owl to be a guide, even in dark moments, and both Zac Brown Band's 2019 tour and the band's next album are inspired by the lore surrounding the creature.
