Ecole St. Cecilia School (610 Agate Crescent S.E.Calgary AB (west on Southland Dr. past Blackfoot)) is hosting our 5th annual bicycle recycle and exchange event. Families are encouraged to donate to the school any bikes, or parts, that they have out-grown and have the opportunity to get another bike for the upcoming summer that will fit better. Those donating a working bike will receive a $10 voucher (per bike) that can be exchanged towards a different bike. All bikes will be sold on Saturday April 26 10:00am-1:00pm for $20 (max. one voucher per bike). People donating a bike this year will be allowed early entrance at 9:00 am. We are also opening up our collections again this year to include used bike parts. This is a great way to make some space in the garage or shed and know that you have helped your friends and community by reducing the need to purchase a new bike when your family has one that is no longer needed. It also encourages the reuse of our bicycles; helps ensure that kids have easy access to healthy activities. Bicycles and parts that do not find a home during our event will be donated to other organizations or recycled. We are accepting all bikes from tricycles to adults. Bike drop offs will be accepted Thursday April 24 and Friday April 25 from 3:30 to 6:30 pm each day. If you are unable to attend but would like to donate please contact for possible pick ups. Last year we had 342 bikes find new homes, this time we hope for 375. Bring your helmets with you this year and have it fitted properly by members of Pedalheads, Helping to ensure you have a fun and safe ride.

We invite you to join us in celebrating World Wish Day the day our very first wish was granted, by participating in our Sweet Dreams Dessert Day Promotion, on April 24th, 2014. Our goal is to raise $20,000, enough to grant two wishes in 2014. We wish to grant 40 wishes this year and we need your help!

WHEN DISASTER STRIKES... Basic services may be suddenly cut off. Similarly, residents and their families may have to evacuate at a moment"s notice. What we have on hand, or what we are trained to do when a disaster or an emergency strikes, can vastly improve comfort and safety in the initial hours and days of the emergency. Many individuals, families, and businesses were caught unawares to deal with the 2013 Alberta Floods. Could we be better prepared should another disaster reoccur in our province? Bridges of Love Ministry, together with experts in the emergency/health fields are facilitating and presenting Community Emergency Response Team training. CERT Basic Training is designed to strengthen individuals and communities in the event of a catastrophic disaster. By working together, CERT members can assist in saving lives and protecting property using the basic techniques offered in this valuable training. Large scale disasters generate a need for a great number of volunteers with a variety of skills, abilities, expertise and training. Please Register Early as space is limited.

We live in a world in which information is everywhere but facts are unclear, in which opinions are rampant but context is missing. How do we filter the din around us and focus on the trends and patterns that will reveal what is truly at issue? And once we have, how do we respond to those signals? These are the questions we’ll examine as part of the Spur Festival’s 2014 theme: Signal vs. Noise. Join fellow citizens and great thinkers at Spur 2014 for some serious fun and add your voice to the discussion.

How do you create a future without breast cancer? RESEARCH. It’s the driving force behind every one of the life-changing advancements to cancer care. Statistics have even shown that for every five years we spend doing medical research, we add one year to the life expectancy of a breast cancer patient. We believe that’s work worth funding, but we know we can do more. We’re pleased to launch the Fellowship Campaign, which is designed to expedite knowledge transfer from one generation of researchers to the next. The Fellowship Campaign The Fellowship Campaign will enable the next generation of breast cancer researchers to work side by side with the field’s most experienced researchers. Over the course of one to three years, a fellowship immerses a young researcher in decades’ worth of experience. It’s an opportunity for collaboration we couldn’t be more excited to be funding. With an estimated 23,800 Canadian women and 200 Canadian men expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in the coming year, the need for research remains strong. Join the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Prairies/NWT Region for a casual coffee talk and presentation about Fellowships and the future of Breast Cancer Research. Learn how you can impact the only program of its kind in Canada – and help further some of the most impactful and important research. The presentation will last approximately 30 minutes, and we will have a 30 minute Q&A to provide you and other members of your community with additional information. This event is open to the public, whether you have supported the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation before or not. Drinks and snacks will be provided. No donation is required to attend.

Canada Olympic Park is the hub-facility in the group of training and competition venues. As the premiere site of the XV Olympic Winter Games in Calgary, the venue is perhaps the most visible legacy of the 1988 Games to visitors and Calgary alike - truly a one-of-a-kind attraction. Our race is held in the "Eastlands", just east of the ski jumps at COP. The terrain is mainly single track. Be prepared for plenty of steep hills!

Plan to join us at our Picnic in the Park and help in our goal of giving 50 flights of compassion this year! This community event, hosted at Mount Royal University, is a mile raiser that supports Give a Mile’s mission to provide flights that unite deserving family members with their critically sick or terminally ill loved ones. Allison and her son Orson will be one of the beneficiaries of the event’s donations. Diagnosed with stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer, Allison has been aggressively fighting for her life with this rare form of cancer since Feb.7th 2014. Her medical expenses and the cost of raising her son have made it difficult for her to make ends meet. Give a Mile would like to fly her to see her family on Vancouver Island. This alone takes two flights of compassion, equal to 30, 000 travel loyalty points. Live Auction: For two Discovery Flights around Calgary area donated by Mount Royal University Aviation. Flight Simulator Tours: Co-pilot with Mount Royal Aviation students in our flight simulator. Museum of Interactive Entertainment “MOIE”: Guide the wind or sing and dance your way across the desert with friends as you play PS3 interactive games, Flower and Journey. Flight Design Stations: Build your own flying machine, Message in a bottle, Ribbon twirlers and more. Games and Entertainment for ALL! Live DJ, lawn games, activities and more! Food Trucks: A variety of food trucks to cater to your taste buds.

Instead, be prepared for creek crossings, branch dodging and climbing along the beautiful green hills while spectators watch in awe at your strength. This course lends itself to all levels of runner and we hope that you will consider wrangling some friends out to this race given it's location in the heart of Calgary.
