30 Day YYC Man-A-Thon. 30 days can start a habit. 30 days can make a difference. 30 days can change your life. In Alberta, 1 in 7 men will develop prostate cancer, but that’s not all. Men live an average of five fewer years than women, are at higher risk of heart attacks than women, and are less likely to see a health care provider. We want to change that. By making small, healthy habits a part of each day, you can lower your risks. By incorporating just one change for 30 days, you can begin a healthy habit. One small change can make a big difference; one small change might even save your life. Go to www.manathon.ca to sign up and start your 30 day change.

Runner planning to participate to the 150K solo run during the Calgary Marathon Race Weekend is looking for one or more volunteer(s). Every runner must sign up at least a volunteer but my friends and family will not make the trip from Montreal to Calgary. This event would enable me to celebrate a special milestone, by completing my 150th marathon or ultra-marathon on Canada’ 150th anniversary, at Canada's longest running marathon. Only a few hours of work are required at a volunteer station Saturday night / Sunday morning (details to be provided by the Race Director later). If you have a few extra hours, you would be most welcome to crew for me the rest of the time, but this is optional since I will be able to be self-sufficient while on course. Post-recovery meal and refreshment(s) would be on me :-) Please contact me ASAP if you’re interested! Thanks. Bruno

Come and celebrate Canada's 150th birthday with the Calgary Multicultural Choir who’s been celebrating our multicultural mosaic for more than 40 years.
This special programme includes favourite songs from our provinces including “Four Strong Winds”, “Wood River”, and “Ah! si mon moine voulait danser!”. The concert also presents “Vivre, Aimer, Partager” - a song that blends a traditional Arabic song with a French poem. This piece was first performed in December 2015 when the first Syrian refugees arrived in Canada. It has been embraced as a song of building bridges across the country.

The choir will also present a National Anthems Medley. This medley weaves more than ten National Anthems together in a wonderful tapestry of sound. Formed in 1979, the Calgary Multicultural Choir has been performing music that reflects the multicultural heritage of the members. The choir now has 60 members representing 26 countries.

HOLLYWOOD BEAUTY SALON portrays life at an intimate beauty parlor inside of the NHS Germantown Recovery Community, a non-profit mental health program in Philadelphia, where staff and clients alike are in the process of recovery. By gathering together to get their hair done, share stories, and support one another, they find a way to rebuild their lives. The documentary — which was work-shopped at the Salon over the course of four years — is also part of the recovery process, and the subjects of the film played an active part in shaping their own narratives and determining their unique individual styles. The Calgary Civic Symphony will bring its 41st season to a crowd-pleasing close with a final concert entitled POPERA! at Jack Singer Concert Hall on June 4, 2017 at 2 pm. Back by popular demand, the Civic features a musical collaboration with Cowtown Opera. You’ll be entertained by the elegance and humour of Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Cosi Fan Tutte, the hijinks of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, the emotion of Sondheim’s Follies, and the rhythms and drama of Bernstein’s West Side Story. Cowtown Opera surprises audiences with cheeky, English language interpretations of operatic classics with remarkable vocal calibre. They are fun, engaging and audiences are always delighted with their performances. A Pre-concert chat will take place in the lobby at 1:45 pm. The Calgary Civic Symphony was founded in 1975 as Calgary’s volunteer orchestra. Over the years, the Civic has swelled to over 80 musicians. With an interesting diversity in professions, its members come together each week to rehearse complex orchestral works. Under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Rolf Bertsch, the Symphony shapes and polishes performances that are truly brilliant! In fact, the Civic is often confused with Calgary’s other—but professional—orchestra.

Black Collar Society will be hosting an adoption event on June 11th from 11AM - 4PM. There will be Canadian, Albertan and Calgarian rescues alike with dogs looking for their forever homes. There will be a variety of furry four-legged pals running about looking for their best friend! Ample parking will be provided in the front and back of the building, as well as street parking. We are also convenieintly located a couple blocks away from the 39th Avenue C-Train station. PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO onsite adoptions. We would like for attendees to respect the process of bringing a new furry family member into their home. Many of these animals have had traumatic beginnings and we want to make sure their new homes are properly equipped and prepared to help transition them to happier days :)

Get into the music! So heavily influenced by soul, funk, blues, jazz, and rock & roll, that Taylor Scott's music is gaining a reputation for transcending the limitations of genre. “I call what we do ‘soul jam’,” says Scott, “because there’s so much going on.” Taylor Scott is an international touring guitarist/singer/songwriter based out of Denver, Colorado. He tours all over the US, Canada, and Europe with both the Taylor Scott Band and blues legend Otis Taylor. In 2015, he played alongside the likes of Warren Haynes on Otis Taylor's critically acclaimed release, "Hey Joe Opus: Red Meat." “For a jaded music fan who thinks most of what passes for artistic talent these days is pretty average, hearing Taylor Scott is like hitting the jackpot. This unassuming kid from Cheyenne, Wyoming is a monster. He’s phenomenal. He can do soul, funk, R&B and shred like a metalhead, and you’ll rarely hear a white person play the blues this well.” Derek One, Cigcity.ca, Edmonton

Calgary Children's Gala aims to promote awareness of multiculturalism in early Childhood to build a better tomorrow by influencing this outlook in the right way. We believe that introducing awareness at an early age will help build tolerance in our future generations to build safer and more permissible communities. Teaching children will help them accept differences; be it a sick child or a child with a different cultural background. At Calgary Children’s Gala we are working with multiple cultures and have planned a spectacular event for children and families to come together to learn about differences in a fun way. Supporting the Children’s Wish Foundation (largest and only all-Canadian charity), all proceeds will be donated to granting wishes to Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. We believe these values are core to Canada’s foundation and resonate with all Canadians. Our goal is to preserve and secure these values that make this beloved country so great! Please join us celebrate this Cultural Medley. Donate generously and support our movement.

Friday evening 7 - 9 pm Saturday and Sunday 9 - 5:30 pm Dr. Richard Jelusich presented “Plant Medicine” with his dear brother Miguel Angel Vergara in Merida, Mexico, in 2013. Since then Dr. Jelsucih has worked with Teresa Helgeson at the Blue Sky Retreat in San Diego realizing that the world really is working to find a pure connection back to Mother Earth. Awakening to Plant Consciousness brings this together by aligning likeminded individuals in one place to share and explore. Dr. Richard Jelusich invites you to come participate in the Awakening to Plant Consciousness Conference in Calgary! This is the time of the awakening of our being to the connectedness of all things. Our key note speaker, Miguel Angel Vergara, Master Teacher, Mayan Shaman and former director of Chichen Itza, will joined by teachers and wisdom-keepers from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, to present their research and inner explorations. In this three day conference of consciousness, you will learn how plants communicate and “speak.” You will also become versed in the true nature of plant medicine, the consciousness of plants and how to communicate with them. In addition, you will be exposed to herbs and remedies, how to choose medicinal and edible nature plants where you live, and much more. http://lightnews.org/awakening-to-plant-consciousness-june-23-25-2017-calgary-ab/

To celebrate the start of their second decade as an ensemble, the Quartet has initiated Celebrating Canadian Women in Music—a spotlight on a ‘quartet’ of immensely talented female Canadian composers from which it commissioned the creation of four new works, one of which will be premiered at this concert. CSQ is joined in this concert by 2015 Honens Prize Laureate Luca Buratto.
