A tough economy means many local artists are also feeling the slow down of their sales, especially those with a disability. Joseph Hnatuk is a local artist and has schizophrenia, which currently affects more than 300,000 Canadians. For many years Joseph has used art to safely and creatively express his inner thoughts. He is able to release his fears and anxieties about things he may have seen or dreamed about. By doing this, he can find peace in his day to day life. It is a very literal experience that Joseph has when creating his art. On Sunday, May 29th, 2016, ArtMatch (a locally owned Calgary business) is hosting an art show promoting 25 local artists, with special guest Joseph Hnatuk. A portion of sales will go towards supporting persons with disabilities. For the past 8 years, Joseph has been part of Vecova's employment services, building clientele and working to market his artwork in Calgary. Vecova Centre for Disability Services and Research is a non-profit service and research organization for people with disabilities. Come out and show your support and add a little SPLASH OF COLOUR and brightness to not only your walls, but to many lives! Splash of Colour Art Show Date: Sunday, May 29th Time: 11am-5pm Address: Optimist Gallery, In-Definite Arts, 8038, Fairmount Drive SE, Calgary, AB Admission: Free Details are available online at http://www.artmatch.ca/splash-of-color/ ArtMatch is a local business promoting the work of non-exclusive, established and independent artists from Calgary and the surrounding area. Since it is an online gallery, a large portion of the proceeds of sales go directly to the artist. The idea is to entice the general public to not shy away from owning original art by making it more affordable, yet at the same time supporting the local economy. ArtMatch provides an exclusive opportunity for the general public to have a free trial to take home any of the paintings at the art show for 48 hours with no obligation to buy!

This is a Chakradance workshop in the Awakening Series. It looks into the Third Eye Chakra, when we tap into it it is called the collective unconscious. We will work on opening your intuition and inner imagination in this workshop. Chakradance uses guided meditation, guided imagery, ecstatic dance, music that resonates with that chakra, mandala art therapy, chakra balancing and healing to acheive a sense of calmness, de-stress, yet energy in it's participants. No dance experience is necessary, the dance portion is done with eyes closed or with eye masks on. It is a dance within, soulwork, a inner journey all your own.

This is the first of seven Chakradance workshops Samaria is starting in the Journeying Series. Every second Thursday another Chakra will be featured until all of them are done. This workshop delves into the Base Chakra which is the most important Chakra of all. If you are not connected to Mother Earth, to your body, your instincts, you cannot ground, centre yourself. If this Chakra is not open energy cannot flow up to the other Chakras. Chakradance uses guided meditation, guided imagery, ecstatic dance, music that resonates with that Chakra, mandala art therapy, chakra balancing and healing. This achieves a feeling of calmness, de-stress, yet gives you energy at the same time. Chakradance is often called the sister to yoga.
