The Kidney Foundation of Canada is proud to host its 5th annual Kidney March. On September 5-7, 2014, an expected 300 participants will make the unforgettable 3 day, 100 km walk from Kananaskis Country to Calgary. Our beautiful journey begins at the Millarville Race Track and ends at Canada Olympic Park. Kidney disease affects 1 in 10 Canadians. Our goal for Kidney March is to prevent new incidences of kidney disease and create hope for those affected by raising awareness and funds for the cause. Kidney March is a community for people affected by kidney disease. To date, we have raised nearly $3 million to support kidney disease prevention, lifesaving research, patient support programs, and organ donation initiatives. There’s still time to sign up as a Marcher or Crew member. Visit http://bit.ly/KidneyMarch to learn more. Feel free to come out and cheer for our Marchers. Thank you for your support!

Alberta Theatre Projects presents: Venus in Fur By David Ives Directed by Tracey Flye A Tony Award-winning smash hit on Broadway. This titillating tour-de-force masterfully explores the art of role-playing – both onstage and off. A young actress has her heart set on landing the lead role in a new play based on the classic erotic novel Venus in Furs. During her audition, armed with a bag of tricks, she and the director enter into a charged game of cat and mouse where the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex, start to blur. Venus in Fur is a whip-smart adult comedy that challenges our ideas of sexual conventions and gender roles. Showtimes vary. Visit atplive.com for exact show dates and times.

The Calgary Cat Association is a non-profit club affiliated with The International Cat Association (TICA) and we are located in Calgary, Alberta. Our members host two cat shows annually in the city of Calgary. Our next show is September 13/14, 2014 at the Frank McCool Arena. A cat show is a judged event where the owners of cats compete to win titles in various cat registering organizations by entering their cats to be judged after a breed standard. Both pedigreed and companion (or moggy) cats are admissible, although the rules differ from organization to organization. Cats are compared to a breed standard, and the owners of those judged to be closest to it are awarded a prize. Often, at the end of the year, all of the points accrued at various shows are added up and additional national and regional titles are awarded. Also in the show hall you will find many vendors marketing their products that are for both human and feline use. Admission Prices: $5 Adults; $2 for children 12 and under; $3 for Seniors 65+ years. Cash at door please.

YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES® is an annual fundraising event which raises money to support the work the YWCA of Calgary does to break the cycle of family violence and help keep women and their children safe. Although family violence is a very serious matter, this fun and light-hearted event asks registered male participants to take a stand against family violence, strap on a pair of heels and walk two laps around Olympic Plaza. Only men can participate in the walk, but women play a huge role in this event by encouraging and challenging the men in their lives to register and fundraise for the YWCA of Calgary.

Let's work together, Calgary, and reclaim our Guinness World Record! 560,000 pounds of food is our goal! The City-Wide Food Drive is the largest single-day food drive in Calgary, and over the past 9 years, has collected well over 3 million pounds of food for the Calgary Food Bank. More than 7,000 family volunteers participate and help collect food throughout the morning and night. If you see the City-Wide Food Drive bag at your door, we encourage you to fill the bag with NON-perishable food items, and leave it on the doorstep for an 8am pick-up! We do absolutely zero door knocking / solicitations, so make sure your bag is visible to the volunteers! NOTE: the bags will be dropped off a few days prior to the day the of the food drive. The City-Wide food drive is an important drive for the city as September and Fall heads into a high-demand period due to back-to-school expenses.

Deva Premal’s pure voice and the ancient mantras she sings are a potent combination that is calling to an ever-increasing number of people. Her soulful rendering of these timeless sounds strikes a powerful chord – whether it’s for a private audience with the Dalai Lama, motivational speaker Anthony Robbins, actress-singer Cher, or in front of thousands of adoring fans around the world. Miten, who plays guitar and sings harmony, also performs his own songs of celebration. During their concerts, which this year include five musicians, Deva Premal & Miten invite the audience to experience the music without the customary applause. This creates a deep silence, a connection between performers and audience that invites stillness and introspection. Says Miten, “The true purpose of our music is to awaken a longing in the heart for that which is omnipresent: the experience of silence and meditation. It’s not about entertainment – it is simply our spiritual practice.” Deva & Miten are accompanied by Nepalese flute maestro Manose. Born in Kathmandu, Manose has performed extensively with them and is featured on their new album MANTRAS FOR LIFE.

It started with an idea - what can passionate, intelligent youth achieve when they work in synergy? How much amazing change can we create when we are unified in one movement? After the International Sustainability Conference achieved fantastic results in its first year, we decided to multiply our impact - expand the movement across the country. True to the GGA’s key aim of connecting young worldchangers, we’re bringing together over 600 youth across three cities together in one united day of action: September 27th 2014. Inspire & Innovate - the first part of the day will feature speakers and workshops to introduce students to new concepts related to sustainability, while the second part of the day will engage students in a challenge. We can’t tell you what the challenge will be just yet - but you’ll have to use your new knowledge and teammates to solve an unreleased, themed problem in an exhilarating hour long activity. Winners will be given prizes as well as financial and mentorship support to continue the projects and ideas developed at this conference!! This event costs $10 per person during early registration period (Aug. 1st - Sept. 1st), and $15 during the late period (Sept 1st - Sept 20th). Individual members with valid Membership Numbers can pay an exclusive fee of $5 before Sept. 20th. Groups of 5 can also register for an exclusive fee of $20 per group (it is mandatory to have exactly 5 members in each group). Payment will take place via paypal after confirmation of registration. 10% of all ISC proceeds will go to a local charity! Join us for a chance to gain leadership skills, network with incredible sustainability professionals, win prizes, start a new venture, and participate in a chance to see how we are truly in this together. This year on October 4, 2014 in Calgary (and in select cities all around North America), bicyclers will have the chance to participate in Ride for Refuge, a fantastically fun, family-friendly bike-a-thon supporting charities serving the displaced, vulnerable, and exploited. Bikers can choose to ride alone, or make a team to support a charity of their choosing. HART (Humanitarian Aid Response Teams) is encouraging riders to join a team in support of Ukrainian refugees. HART has been working over the past several months to evacuate orphans from the war zones in the Eastern part of Ukraine. HART has assisted in evacuating over 400 orphans and relocating them to safe facilities in Central and Western Ukraine. An orphanage HART evacuated recently was bombed the day after the children were removed. Many of them will not be able to return to their orphanage for up to a year even if or when the fighting stops. Their facilities have been damaged by the war and are in need of repairs. Hart is now challenged with the task of housing, feeding, clothing, and providing medical and dental assistance for hundreds of displaced children. If anyone is interested in joining this awesome all ages bike-a-thon to help raise funds for refugees in Ukraine we’d love for you to ride for us!! http://rideforrefuge.org/partner/hartcanada More information about the Calgary ride can be found here: http://rideforrefuge.org/location/calgary

Multiple Juno award-winning musician Steve Strongman brings a fresh new sound to the Canadian Blues scene with his acoustic guitar and raw, passionate vocal performance. Originally from Kitchener, Ontario, Strongman is the winner of a Juno, four Maple Blues Awards and the 2009 Mel Brown Blues Award. "With ‘Natural Fact,’ Steve Strongman is well on my way to becoming my new favourite Canadian bluesman and definitely a hidden treasure everyone should discover, like many people including Buddy Guy, Joe Cocker and Randy Bachman already have." - Richard Amery, L.A. Beat “Even if you’re not into blues music at all, I would suggest that you stop in and see this guy live, anyway. You don’t have to be a fan of the music to know that there aren’t going to be many times in your life that you’ll see someone play who has a command of their instrument the way Strongman does.” - Velvet Rope Magazine $41 Friday, November 28, 2014

Solid Rock Baptist Church of Calgary recently held evangelistic meetings in six different parts of the Philippines. The meeting places included Tacloban which was devastated by Typhoon Hayian (Yolanda) in November of last year. The response to these meetings was very enthusiastic with about one hundred and fifty Filipino pastors from independent Baptist churches and many more persons in attendance. Seven preachers from the United States and Canada spoke at the Pastor's School in Tagaytay (near Manila) to conclude the series of gospel meetings that were held in Bicol, Tacloban, Iloilo City, Baladjay (Antique) and Davao (Mindanao) over a five week period. Over seven hundred Filipinos came to this meeting and nearly fifty persons from Solid Rock Baptist Church in Calgary, Canada. Many lives were changed as a result of the strong preaching. Another Pastor's School will be conducted in February 2015 to provide ongoing encouragement and help for the pastors and churches in the Philippines.
