Dalhousie Community Playschool is a warm and accepting environment for your child to begin his or her school career.  Our dedicated, experienced teachers and assistants are gifted at recognizing each child as an individual and making him or her feel worthwhile.  Each day includes time in which children are free to explore a wide variety of materials and participate in crafts.  They are also introduced to group activities through stories, show and tell, singing and games.  Various themes are explored throughout the year and special days such as Beach Day, Pirate Day, Backwards Day and Buddy Night are exciting changes in routine.  Special events also include a Christmas Party, field trips and a year-end Family Picnic.  Access to a large gymnasium and playground allows for regular physical activity.  The program runs September through May with school holidays scheduled at the same time as the Calgary Board of Education.

We are a parent-run playschool therefore each registered family is required to volunteer for a position.  These range from serving on the parent committee to assisting teachers as helping hands.  We also ask parents to volunteer in the classroom 4 to possibly 8 times over the school year.  On these days your child gets to be a special helper and you get a chance to participate in the daily activities.  It is very rewarding to be a participant in your child’s playschool experience.

3 yr-old   9:15 – 11:15 a.m.                             4 yr-old  9:00 – 11:15 a.m. OR 1:00 –  3:15 p.m.

3 & 4 yr-old combined  1:15 – 3:15 p.m.                   

Children must be 3 years old on or before December 31, 2010, and may not attend classes without a parent/caregiver in the building until their 3^rd birthday.  The playschool accepts children in the 3 year old classes if they are not completely toilet trained however toilet training should be in progress.  If your child is not fully toilet trained, a parent/caregiver must be readily available (i.e. in the building, no more than five minutes away) to change your child in the event of an accident.

ü      Alberta Personal Health Care Number          

ü      $35.00 registration fee, made out to Dalhousie Community Playschool

ü      10 post dated cheques (9-monthly instalments for student fees, made out to Dalhousie Community Playschool

ü       1post-dated cheque (September 1, 2010) for $32 made out to Dalhousie Community Association for the upcoming year’s DCA membership

ü      All contact information (including parent work addresses, and caregiver address and phone numbers)

ü      A response of NIL in the **Allergies section if your child has none

ü      Signatures on all consent forms (or VOID line if request for omission)

ü      Doctor’s name and telephone number

ü      Proof of age (i.e. Alberta Health Care card, Birth Certificate, Passport or other government-issued identification)

ü      Assignment of volunteer position

Only “FULLY” completed forms, with families meeting all eligibility requirements, will be processed and placed in the order received.  Incomplete forms will NOT be accepted.

There are spots available in the 4 yr old p.m. class, all other classes for 2009-10 are currently full.  Please contact the playschool at dalhousieplayschool@yahoo.ca  or (403) 286-2339 for class availability.  Registration for 2010-11 year begins February 1, 2010. 

Withdrawal:

Should you wish to WITHDRAW your child from the program, you must call the Playschool and leave a message for the Registrar or Assistant Registrar and provide one month's written notice at the first of the month (e.g. If leaving November 1st, you must phone and submit a written withdrawal  by October 1st to avoid paying November fees.  If you phone/withdraw October 5th to leave November 1st, your November cheque will be processed).   For withdrawal notices given part way through the month, the next month's fees will be processed unless a replacement is found to fill your child's spot.  If a replacement is found, your fees will be refunded.  If over the summer, you decide to withdraw your child, the withdrawal must be submitted by July 31 in order to avoid monthly fees.

Important Dates for 2010:

Registration for the 2010-11 year is now ongoing.  There is availability in T/Th. p.m. class (3/4 year old split) and the M/W/F p.m. class (4 year old).  The other classes are wait-listed.  Please contact the playschool at dalhousieplayschool@yahoo.ca or (403) 286-2339 for additional information or to register.
