Valley Ridge continues to grow and develop into a more established community, while attempting to create and maintain facilities which many older Calgary neighborhoods have in place.

Whatever your reason for moving to Valley Ridge, we all have a vested interest from a quality of life and from a property value standpoint to see our community continue to improve.

Your Valley Ridge Community Association executive is made up of volunteers, who together with other community volunteers, are investing their time and energy in making this community a better place to live.  Occasionally when we sell Memberships (which cost only $35 per year) we get comments back such as "what do I get for my money" or "I don’t think I use anything the Community Association pays for".  Here are some of the things your Membership contributes towards:

Your VRCA Membership helps pay for:

  • a capital fund to be used for the financing of future community facilities or services and which will be based on community feedback and needs;
  • maintenance of the seasonal rink facility located near the Plazebo;
  • organize and hold the spring pathway clean-up, the community garage sale and pancake breakfast, the annual BBQ and the Park N’ Play Days;
  • annual insurance premiums to cover the liability associated with the soccer;
  • purchase of equipment associated with the new hockey rink
  • to cover the cost of our Volunteer Appreciation Night, which recognizes a group of individuals who are indispensable to the community;
  • to cover the cost of the VRCA Annual General Meeting and Special General Meetings and regular association and other public meetings.  Our board members sit on a myriad of other associations and committees such as the Calgary West Special Places Committee, the Federation of Calgary Communities, etc., all of which enhance our community value and enable us to stay current on issues which may impact us;
  • organize and staff the bi-annual fund raising casino;
  • organize and hold open houses with respect to items of interest to the community such as the proposed Fire Station development, the Stoney Trail Interchange and the traffic circle; and
  • act as a liaison for the community and individual members with the golf course, our Alderman Dale Hodges, our Calgary Police Liaison Officer, the municipal government and the Province.

We think that there is a lot that your membership helps pay for, but we could do more.  Should every household in Valley Ridge purchase a membership, the Community Association could do a lot more, including the implementation of a community beautification program.  We think that this is truly possible and hope that residents will show their support of this great community by purchasing their annual membership.

Please contact the VRCA membership chair if you have any other questions or comments:  Suzanne Brett Welsh via email:  sbwelsh@ucalgary.ca

Thank you for your support!
