New By-Laws
for Britannia Community Association
The
original By-Laws for the Community Association of Britannia were signed on
June 1, 1967 and some minor amendments had been made over the years.
At
the March 10th 2009 AGM, members in attendance unanimously
approved a new set of bylaws for the BCA.
Some
of the changes include:
º
Reflection of the legal name
change to “Britannia Community Association”
º
Definition of membership
categories and voting rights for each category. Voting rights only apply to
adult members (aged 18 plus). Each address may only hold one category of
membership:
-
Regular household membership
– two votes
-
Senior household membership –
two votes
-
Individual membership – one
vote
A
single adult household may opt for either the household or individual
membership and exercise the designated number of votes associated with that
category. Owners of multiple properties may hold multiple memberships.
Either property owners or renters may hold memberships – but only one
membership per address. If a household membership, the owner and the renter
can each exercise one vote or either can exercise both votes.
º
Provision for proxy votes
º
Removal of reference to a
specific amount for membership fees
º
Various points on procedure,
meeting notification, quorums, board and executive and so forth.
º
Definition of “The Objects of
the Association”:
a.
to promote and foster
Community spirit and better relations among the residents of the Community
and with the Community at Large;
b.
to facilitate the
recreational, cultural, social, athletic, ecological and educational
activities of the residents of the Community; and
c.
otherwise generally to serve and promote the
interests of the Community as appropriate.
